2 other pigs died from flu in India to 48

Twelve other swine flu deaths have been confirmed in India on Friday, taking the total number of deaths from the H1N1 virus 48, the Union Health Ministry said here.

The maximum deaths were reported in Maharashtra, where 27 people were killed. The state, which is most affected by the virus, six reported deaths in the last 24 hours.

The country has also reported 138 new cases of influenza A (H1N1), taking into account the total number infected in the country in 2539.

Apart from Maharashtra, two people were killed in Karnataka, three in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Eleven deaths were reported in Karnataka today.

It is followed by the State of Gujarat, where five people died. In Tamil Nadu and Delhi, the number two, while in Kerala, a person was the victim of a deadly virus.

The conference of health ministers in New Delhi on Friday, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Union said that 36 deaths have been reported until Thursday.

However, he acknowledged that there was some confusion about the dead and officials to check the data with public authorities.

"There was no panic, because the country has so far managed to contain the spread of the virus," he said.

IR Perumal, the Secretary General for Health and Family Welfare in Karnataka, said that the state has recorded 11 deaths from influenza virus.

"In our country, 211 positive cases so far. 11 of them died because of delays in diagnosis," says Perumal IANS on the sidelines of the Conference of Ministers of Health.

"More than 100 the total number of cases were cured and discharged. We are ready to fight the spread of the virus," he added.

According to the Ministry of Health, about 13,364 people have been tested to date, including 2539 tests positive influenza A H1N1.

138 new cases were reported from Mumbai (6), Pune (62), Ahmednagar (1), Nanded (2), Akola (1), Jalna (1) Kolhapur (1), Nasik (3), Nagpur ( 2), Chennai (10), Delhi (12), Bangalore (19), Bijapur (1), Calcutta (3), Silchar (1), Ernakulam (7), Kota (1), Srinagar (2), Jammu (1), Agra (1) and Raipur (1).

Only three patient were tested positive travel stories.
